Basil

You know that sweet, comforting aroma you get when you step up to an Italian dish? That's basil. For me, it's garlic too mixed in with the humidity in the air from freshly boiled pasta. Can you tell I'm a carb lover? Ask yourself how fresh is the basil you have in your spice rack? How fresh was it when you bought it from the store? This may seem like a simple and even basic seasoning, but it won't be when you have it freshly made straight from the garden. Try it. Add it to a garlic bread with a few fresh slices of cherry tomatoes on top. Put it in a soup at the tail end of cooking and let it simmer and steep. You won't be disappointed.
